Small Footprints has got her crystal ball out again… How do you do this? Reading my mind.
Don’t think you’ve won, just because I’m eating vegan today…
This week’s Change the World Wednesday challenge:
If you eat a Vegan diet every day, we’d like to benefit from your experience so please share tips, ideas, recipes, etc.
Most of you will already know that I am a healthy happy carnivore, but even us carnivores eat ‘vegan’ occasionally. It’s not a conscious choice, it’s just a spur of the moment decision. My decision today was spurred by a conversation with my mother last Saturday, she rings me each week from NZ and mentioned that she had been out with the ‘girls’ (I use that term loosely, because my mother is fast approaching 88) and eaten quiche.
Wow, I haven’t eaten quiche for yonks (ill-defined long period of time) and I woke this morning with the thought… “Quiche for lunch.” As I only had toast, marmalade and coffee (*checks for animal content*) for breakfast I am in the running for a vegan day. Now I’ll have to use ‘plastic butter’ (margarine) for the pastry instead of my customary lard.
I just checked, there is no indication that my margarine is free of fish oils or whey… Hmmm, okay, I will go to the shop and get some vegetable based cooking fat.
Hmmmm, does a vegan eat eggs?
I just googled. They don’t. There are egg substitutes like tofu, but that is poison because it’s made from unfermented soy beans, Did you know that tofu is poison? Look it up.
So I am going to use eggs.
Well, that blows that idea.
Oh well…. I tried; and I was even thinking what I could do to make the day complete with a vegan dinner as well.
Next week…

LOL … don’t give up. Okay, maybe your menu for the day isn’t vegan but it is vegetarian … and, while not as easy on the planet as a vegan meal, it’s gentler than a meal of meat. Of course … there are 7 days in a week so … you could plan another day to go completely vegan. 🙂 Come on … I double dog dare you! Besides … you’re a chef and I’d LOVE to know what kind of vegan food you’d make for a day … I’m sure it wouldn’t be boring raw veggies but rather something grand.

@SF, I was thinking about that. You’re right it wouldn’t be a boring raw vege thing, I am not a rabbit.
*puts thinking cap on*
Check later. Thanks for comment and tweets.

I am vegan, so the challenge wasn’t really a challenge for me! I do not eat soy (tofu, tempeh, seitan). I do on the very rare occasion when I go to a wedding or something and it is the vegetarian option. But I do not do it on purpose. Poison is a good word for it! Try flax seeds and water for an egg replacement. Google it. I do not know off hand the amount to use.

@GGGG it was spammed, but your comments should appear first time now that I have de-spammed you. Since this post, I have looked at the whole vegan thing, there are some things I just won’t do without. However, I still am against many of the methods that we get those things and will continue the fight.

I didn’t know it’s made from unfermented soy beans and that it was poison. I do not usually eat tofu. Although, I never thought that it was safe to eat for some reason. I will have to look it up!

@Katie, I did a big post on my old blog about it about a year ago, but of course that has all gone. I was surprised at the facts myself when I did the research. One thing the corporations failed to tell us when they were promoting all these soy products, all soy eaten in Asia is from fermented soy. They only tell you what they want you to know.
Thanks for the visit and comment.

well that’s blown my plan for introducing more tofu into my diet. I think I’m onen of those people who needs a little animal protein. I can’t eat nuts or seeds and after 20 years I’ve just started eating chicken again (and feeling so much better). One of the #ctww gang suggested one vegan meal a day – I think I could do that as a compromise..

@MrsGreen, you are not the first person who has told me that returning to some form of meat in their diet has made them feel better. I have seen three such instances.
