Why are we (westerners) so fat and flabby?

The answer is simple…

We are what we eat!

Reasoning:

Obviously the west has it wrong.

We are basically a race of short fat people who are getting weaker and slower than them, Our kids are born with teeth that need straightening and many need eyesight correction. Arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, strokes, depression, schizophrenia and cancers are commonplace. We are the most progressive races of the world. Our diet is no secret, McDonald’s hoardings are everywhere and it has changed vastly in the last 2 million years. Ours is a diet that has been made by corporations regardless of what is healthy for us and coded in our genes. It has some major differences to the diet of cavemen. You are in for some big surprises.

Cavemen did not eat grains, beans nor potatoes. Why? They are poisonous when raw. It was not until we learned to ‘cook’ food that they became a part of our diet. Cooking removes most of the toxins and leaves the carbohydrates. Grains include wheat, corn, barley, rice, sorghum, millet and oats. Grain based foods also include products such as flour, bread, noodles and pasta.

Yes, the major enemy is flour.

Our genes were never developed with grains, beans and potatoes and were not in tune with them, and still are not.

We haven’t evolved in tune with changes in our diet and as a result suffer for it.

In more modern times our diets have become ravaged by other substances that have entered the diet – particularly salt and sugar, and more recently a host of chemicals including firstly caffeine then all other additives, colourings, preservatives, pesticides etc.

The essentials of the Paleolithic Diet are:

Eat none of the following:

· Grains- including bread, pasta, noodles

· Beans- including string beans, kidney beans, lentils, peanuts, snow-peas and peas

· Potatoes

· Dairy products

· Sugar

· Salt

Eat the following:

· Meat, chicken and fish

· Eggs

· Fruit

· Vegetables (especially root vegetables, but definitely not including potatoes or sweet potatoes)

· Nuts, eg. walnuts, brazil nuts, macadamia, almond. Do not eat peanuts (a bean) or cashews (a family of their own)

· Berries- strawberries, blueberries, raspberries etc.

 Try to increase your intake of:

· Root vegetables- carrots, turnips, parsnips, rutabagas, Swedes

· Organ meats- liver and kidneys (I accept that many people find these unpalatable and won’t eat them)
