Anonymous billionaires donated $120m to more than 100 anti-climate groups working to discredit climate change science

Conservative billionaires used a secretive funding route to channel nearly $120m (£77m) to more than 100 groups casting doubt about the science behind climate change, the Guardian has learned.

The funds, doled out between 2002 and 2010, helped build a vast network of thinktanks and activist groups working to a single purpose: to redefine climate change from neutral scientific fact to a highly polarising “wedge issue” for hardcore conservatives.

Why are these billionaires opposing climate change ideas?

Because they have made their billions in ways that damage the climate, and they don’t want that to change.

    • >Alex, they are. I have been aware of stories similar around many news sources for a long time. This exposé by The Guardian ties together all I have previously read.

      There is more to this oligarchy that we are ruled by, than we know.

  2. This doesn’t surprise me at all, unfortunately. I know here in the US the lobbyists work very hard to make sure nothing gets passed that would affect the profits of the big corporations when it comes to new laws concerning everything from natural gas and oil to the very food we eat.

    • >lsf, I think that most of those accusations are aimed at the US, Britain doesn’t have the same number of billionaires. They don’t give a tuppenny fart about people as long as their bank balances grow. It’s time more people became aware of this skullduggery.
