Last CTWW of the year.
Yes, there is a challenge, two actually.
First is have a Happy New Year!
Second, don’t use/accept a drink in a plastic glass.
Not even to toast in the New year.
Besides, plastic glasses are just so tacky.
Good wine doesn’t deserve to be treated this way.
Even beer is cheapened by plastic.
Once you have got over New Year, continue the challenge for the rest of the year. Make it a whole year of refusing plastiuc glasses.

So how have we gotten so far off course? When the label of ‘green’ was introduced, it was seen as a mission statement; something that would entitle the customer to some sense of comfort that they product they were supporting (which was usually more expensive) was working with the Earth’s best interests at heart. Instead we have simply completed a full consumerist revolution; the label has been taken, assigned a cultural identity and used to sell a piece of a lifestyle that is intended to speak more to your peers than to subsidize an environmental commitment.

It always boggles the mind when cafes serve your drink in plastic glasses when you say you want it “for here” – even though they’ll happily give you a real coffee mug for the hot stuff. VIP to see or ask what they serve in otherwise if you correct them afterwards you’re still wasting the cup!

>EcoGrrl, you make a valid point. If the drink is served, the plastic is already waste. We live in a sad world when it is assumed you will accept plastic. I am constantly on the warpath at the locl bar about regulars using plastic glasses. Happily, my bitching has caused some of them to rethink and return to glass.
